Boothbay Region Art Foundation Loses It's Non-juried Status

Note- The explanation given by BRAF for the calendar listing of a "juried" show is that it was a mistake. However the mistake remains in place on the calendar for the August Show- and so, in my view, the "mistake" remains rhetorical until it is actually corrected.

It is with great sadness that I learned to day that The Boothbay Region Art Foundation has become yet another juried show.

Over the years in numerous blogs I have praised The Boothbay Region Art Foundation and their unjuried show- open to all artists to submit work of their choice. This resulted in a transformative creativity blossoming and evolving at The Boothbay Region Art Foundation.

With the passing of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation’s original intent, there is a void in our community waiting to be filled

The Maine Arts Commission recently announced that stimulus funds are available for non-profit organizations. -I hope that someone will answer the call of the void and give birth to a new Art Foundation representing the rare and wonderful unjuried show.

There is a genuine need for a non-judgmental venue in which artists can present their work, be they young or old. I believe the unjuried venue encourages artists that might not otherwise take the step of showing their work to the world.

I hope that The Boothbay Art Foundation is continuing it's polices of funding it's operations through the sales of artists work. This is the best thing for the artist and the gallery. June Rose deserves special recognition for the work she has done over the years in both managing the gallery and as chief sales person of the artists work.
