Andersen Design and the Transformation of America
Wednesday, October 14, 2009
As many of you know, Andersen Studio, Andersen Design was started in the 1950’s with a philosophy of producing a hand made product affordable to the middle classes. We have a life long commitment to producing our craft in America.
However, we did not foresee what is taking place today. It is time to face the new reality. With the successive bills, the anticipated taxes to pay for them, and all of the spending that our government is manifesting- and combined with the cold shoulder that same government turns of the credit freeze existing in the small business economy, it is time for Andersen Design to begin exploring the possibility of having our medium priced line produced in a business friendly nation and to explore marketing abroad.
Our primary asset is our extensive line of wild life sculptures and functional forms that have retained their marketability for over half a century, but due to the small size of our production, the market has never been flooded. We need partners as well as financing. We have no idea how this works or where to begin researching. We welcome any tips or information.
It is our hope that if this is a course we must take, that we can use it to the benefit of the line that we would continue producing in our own studio. This is not a course we would consider under different circumstances but with our country undergoing a “fundamental transformation” it is time for us to consider fundamentally transforming the way that we do business.
I have long had an eye on how we can transform this business into an enterprise that out lives ourselves. Here is my original Vision Statement. I do know if that vision is still viable. While we await to find out the fate for small business in the United States of America. We need, at least to be creatively exploring our options.
Tips, and suggestions welcomed.
